Kate McGarry, vocalist

“A lot of jazz singers are good at a few devices and punch them out song after song; Ms. McGarry, who is slowly becoming known around New York, has a deeper supply. You'll find shades of pop singers like Suzanne Vega and Rickie Lee Jones in her voice; you'll also find some of the highest refinements of great jazz singing. She has a breadth of material that runs from jazz standards to traditional Irish ballads.''

—Ben Ratliff, The New York Times

Kate McGarry's sultry and sophisticated jazz vocals display both a reverence for traditional form and a flair for innovative styling. With her new CD Show Me, Kate becomes the first jazz vocalist to be signed to the prestigious Palmetto Records label. Her first recording, Easy To Love (Vital Music), was acclaimed by critics and audiences alike. Music Magazine calls Kate “a strong improviser who shows taste and restraint worthy of the most mature jazz singer.” Her film and soundtrack credits include composing and/or performing songs for Measure for Measure (2003) and the title track on the 1993 release Boiling Point, starring Wesley Snipes and Dennis Hopper.
