Mulgrew Miller, piano

Born in Greenwood, Mississippi, Mulgrew Miller had a childhood filled with early musical experiences and constant meddling in jazz piano. He focused on jazz after hearing a recording by Oscar Peterson and today much of his playing has the same technical prowess connected with Peterson.

Early in his career he performed with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Art Blakey, Woody Shaw, Betty Carter, and Tony Williams; he currently maintains his own working trio with Derrick Hodge and Karriem Riggins. One of the most recorded pianists on the scene today, his latest albums are Live At Yoshi's Vol. 1 (2004) and Vol. 2 (2005). Miller was recently named director of jazz studies at William Paterson University.

"Perhaps the leading pianist of his generation."

Boston Globe

"Mulgrew Miller is rapidly earning his place as one of America's most inventive and talented jazz pianists."
