Claudia
Acuña, vocalist
and
the poetry of Pablo Neruda
A “fiery chanteuse” whose music is “intoxicatingly
beautiful” (Jazz Times), Chilean-born vocalist Claudia
Acuña made her mark on the jazz world in Santiago before coming to the U.S.
in her early 20s. She has since recorded three acclaimed albums: Word
from the South (2000), To My Country (2003), and Luna (2004).
“
Acuña’s voice is an instrument of wonder... [she] is a natural,
blessed with a gorgeous, honey-rich sound and an unerring sense of phrasing.”
— Los
Angeles Times
“ Her
voice, capable of producing sultry chest tones and silvery highs,
was showcased in a variety of English-Spanish contexts, including
some that consistently revealed her spot-on intonation and delightful
harmonic
finesse.”
— The Washington Post
One of the most
influential poets of the Twentieth Century, Pablo Neruda won the Nobel
Prize in 1971. The delights of his poetry—earthy,
sensual, and transcendent—emerge in the recent collection Full
Woman, Fleshly Apple, Hot Moon.
