December 2nd, 2007 at All Souls at Sundown:

Marcus Printup, trumpet
R iza Hequibal, harp

“Printup is a roaring, eccentric and gifted trumpeter who thrives on competition… When he starts pushing, with daring note choices and a fat, hard sound, he flowers as an individual, even thrilling improviser.”

— Peter Watrous, The New York Times

Trumpeter Marcus Printup has been performing with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra since 1993 and has recorded with Betty Carter, Dianne Reeves, Eric Reed, Madeline Peyroux, Ted Nash, Cyrus Chestnut, Wycliffe Gordon and Marcus Roberts, among others. Mr. Printup has numerous recordings as a leader, including Song for the Beautiful Woman, Unveiled, Hub Songs, Nocturnal Traces, The New Boogaloo, Peace in the Abstract, and most recently, Bird of Paradise (2007), featuring Riza Hequibal.

Acclaimed harpist Riza Hequibal maintains a demanding nationwide performance schedule, and she is Director of Orchestra and Early Childhood Music at Greater Atlanta Christian School in Norcross, GA. Her debut release is Birds of Paradise with Mr. Printup.

Featuring The Poetry of Philip Levine

“ A superb lyric poet” (Harold Bloom), Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807–1882) “deserves to be remembered as the native bard who gave mythic dimension to the country’s historical imagination, a national poet of epic sweep and solemn feeling who came along right at the moment when the emerging nation had the most need for one… No American poet of any era has been both as awesomely prolific and prodigiously popular.” (The Atlantic)
